The Myth of Recycling

Walk into any high-street coffee shop, and you will likely see a recycling symbol on the lid. Here is the dirty secret of the waste industry: almost none of these lids are actually recycled. Because they are small, lightweight, and often contaminated with coffee, they fall through the sorting grates at recycling facilities. They end up in landfill or, worse, in the sea, where they slowly break down into microplastics.

The Circular Solution: Plant Fibre

At Liplid, we didn't want to just "offset" the problem; we wanted to delete it. Our lids are moulded from bamboo and bagasse fibre, with no plastic coating. Because the lid sits inside the rim, it weighs about 4 g, against 5.5-6 g for a typical lid of the same size. And our 90 mm Classic lids are certified home compostable (DIN CERTCO, NF T51-800, reg. no. 9P0215 and 9P0212).
